The Simple Task

that Saves Lives

The selected Re:act 2024 campaign in the United States, Pass the Phone, aims to promote safe practices and make our roads safer for everyone.

Despite understanding the increased risk of car crashes, phone addiction can override our commitment to road safety. Distracted driving is a serious issue in Maryland, contributing to nearly half of all car crashes.

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Maryland law prohibits cell phone use and texting while driving.

Reading a text takes 5 seconds, equivalent to driving 3 football fields blind at 55mph.

Using your phone while driving increases your risk of crashing by 4 times and 10 times if you’re texting.

~75% of drivers believe that 17-25 year olds are distracted by their phones often.

The Pass the Phone campaign offers a simple yet effective solution: hand your phone to a passenger while driving.

This small behavioral change can turn distracted drivers into more attentive, safer ones, significantly reducing the risk of crashes.

Meet the Artist

I’m Danika, and I am an Immersive Media Design student at University of Maryland. Working with Re:act has been a pleasure, as I’ve been able to get constructive feedback and support throughout my design process whilst advocating for a cause that is deeply impactful.

When I was 16, I was in a car crash affected by distracted driving. It has been clear to me that it is not a certain type of person who gets into crashes, it can be anyone. Due to the rise in phone and technology usage, we face even more severe risks due to our habitual behaviors.

Therefore, I am very proud to be selected for Re:act 2024 in Maryland, presenting you with a campaign that addresses the problem at hand (or, in this case, literally in your hands).

Thank you to Re:act and its partners:
